Masterplast launches a circular economic system firstly in the Hungarian construction industry, known as “Hungarocell Green Program”. The unique program focuses on to collect the residues arise from the use of Hungarocell polystyrene and XPS products, and to transform them into thermo-insular Thermobeton materials. Within the framework of the new acquisition, Masterplast acquired to ownership of FidelisBau Kft, producer of the Thermobeton, which provided the opportunity for this program. Due to the acquisition, Masterplast possesses the necessary regulatory approvals to collect, transport and process the polystyrene waste, as well as the production technology necessary for recycling. The environmentally-friendly approach is getting more and more important in the company’s operation, including the production of eco-friendly insulation materials and the recycling of products.
Masterplast, for the first time in the national construction industry, aims to introduce a unique service to collect and process the polystyrene products sold by the company and arisen from use, promoting the circular management.
The launching of the “Hungarocell Green Program” was justified and enabled by several factors. In the current construction practice, the amount of loss arisen from the use of polystyrene materials can reach 3-5 percent that would become waste in the absence of other solutions. According to the estimations, the amount of waste arisen from this process can reach 100 thousand cubic meters – meaning increasing costs to the construction contractors besides the significant environmental impact. The clean, cut polystyrene, on the other hand, can serve as valuable raw material to the manufacturing of recycled insulating materials. Thermobeton, a thermal insulating light concrete made of recycled raw material, has been in the offer of Masterplast since 2002. The manufacturer and supplier of Thermobeton has been FidelisBau Kft since its foundation in 2002. The company possesses the regulatory approvals to collect, transport and process the polystyrene waste, and owns the lean manufacturing as well. The price of the acquisition currently implemented reached HUF 100 million is estimated to return in 7 years which could by accelerated by the draft law on waste. The registered office of FidelisBau Kft is located in Csór, 25 km far from the Masterplast center in Sárszentmihály.
As a result of the acquisition, extensive network of partners and logistical tools, Masterplast will be capable of arranging the recollection and the recycling of unused materials, supporting the circular economy. The Hungarian manufacturer aims to collect and process 10 thousand cube meters of cut polystyrene even in first year. As a result, instead of generating more waste, we produce a recycled product which will further reduce the energy need of the buildings.
“We honestly believe that with this acquisition which serves as a basis of the “Hungarocell Green Program” we will be exemplary pioneers to the national introduction of the circular economy.”– added David Tibor, CEO of Masterplast.
