Masterplast is the first manufacturer in the development of BauApp application

Masterplast was the first Hungarian building material manufacturer which joined the initiative of BauApp, a frontrunner in developing digital solutions for the construction industry.

The industry needs efficiency enhancing solutions more than ever. Exploiting the potential of digitalization may bring considerable progress to every actor of the construction industry.

What justifies the holistic development?

Surprisingly, the logistical documentation of the construction industry is still paper-based. In an outdated system, the participants have no choice but to work without using real-time data, which is closely linked to fact that to the construction industry is one of the largest waste-producing sectors.

The problem roots in the inappropriate labelling of the materials, the lack of the propriate, standardized QR and barcodes, as therefore the constructors often struggle with the identification of the received construction materials. Due to the lack of that, there is no functioning warehouse system, delivery note administration, ordering application and waste management system on the construction sites. An up-to-date stock record is not available for the contractors, who do not know the exact amount of certain materials on sites. Thereupon, over-ordering, wastage, or shortages are common, and often result in the termination of construction.

Concerning the size and importance of the industry, it is obvious that there is enormous potential in the holistic digitization of the system.

What is the current stage of development?

BauApp has been working on a standard, unified coding system to be used for material identification, a product designation, and a central administration for the construction materials marketed in Hungary. To this, an extensive consultation has started with the manufacturers, suppliers, transporters, and mainly with the general constructors. The new standard should be suitable for the complete construction industry. To achieve this, collaboration and co-operation in the development of the standard is necessary.

What are the benefits of BauApp Standard?

It helps reduce the costs for every participants of the chain, from the manufacturing till the completion of the construction. With better field logistics, as well as with a more predictable material management, and reduced wastage resulted in a lower waste generation, the construction companies can save considerable costs. The field logistics team operates the raw materials used on constructions, which makes up 60% of costs of a typical construction project.

What does the field logistical application of BauApp know?

The newest mobile application helps identify and stock up the materials, as well as handle the delivery notes. This will be used by the contractors for inward handling via mobile/tablet, scanning the barcode / QR code, or selecting manually from the construction material database. Delegating it to a subcontractor, following the stock levels, and managing the delivery notes will also be possible.

Who can benefit from the solution of the applications?

The application is favorable for the constructers, suppliers, transporters, general contractors and subcontractors as well. In the current field logistics, where the material management is minimal due to the lack of stock information, everybody loses. The manufacturer does not get the delivery note immediately, the handled items may be returned to the trader – therefore, the delivery note often runs in the system for weeks, causing late payments. It is particularly unfair that the participant, who delivered the item weeks ago cannot issue its invoice.

One of the greatest advantages of the new solution is that the market operators got their money earlier, and the uncertainty from the point of manufacturers is reduced.

The general contractor wins as they can manage the stocks better, follow which materials are needed and can check if they have the appropriate stock level, thereby they can operate without incurring material losses, and can assess its subcontractors and see their use of material. Over-ordering can be prevented, resulting in a reduced wastage. Nevertheless, the system eliminates any misuse and profiteering as well.

“We launched a field logistical range together with our partners supporting the standard for users working on the field, warehouse, behind the wheels, or in the office. With the new field logistical solutions based on a new standard material identification, handling the stock records will be easier by following the quantities delivered and delegated to subcontractors. With the manageable delivery notes, orders and the processes, significant savings can be made.” – summarized Adam Dalnoki, director of BauApp.

“Masterplast has always been at the forefront in innovation, and we believe that the manufacturers should collaborate on the digitalization of the construction industry – as they will also benefit from the system. The domestic industry is being digitalized, and in the near future not only the products will deliver value, but also the digital data connected to them. For this reason, we should enable our products to operate digitally by our clients via the data being added to it. BauApp helps us to do just that. We particularly welcome the fact that GS1 is a standard partner of BauApp, as many of our products use GS1 standards, they are labelled with barcodes, which greatly facilitates our work. We have great expectations for the technical cooperation!” – said Balazs Acs, vice-president of Masterplast.
