Masterplast’s Green Program won a sustainability award

The 2022 Sustainable Future Award ceremony took place at the BCSDH Business Luncheon on October 13.

The prize, created to recognize outstanding corporate and managerial performance for achieving Sustainable Development Goals and system-level changes, was awarded the sixth time by the jury in the categories of Change Leader, Female Leader and Business Solution.

Irén Márta, the director of BCSDH and member of the professional jury, said: In 2022, we announced the award for a Sustainable Future founded by the BCSDH for the sixth time. The current situation poses severe challenges to business actors. This year, we announced the award for a sustainable future, focusing on the areas where companies have the most significant impact on the transformation of systems. Reading the applications, we were pleased to see that, despite the serious challenges, considerable progress has been made in many areas of sustainability.”

The 5-member professional jury, including Dr. Gábor Bartus, Szilvia Krizsó, Irén Márta, István Salgó and Diána Ürge-Vorsatz selected the awardees.

Masterplast’s Hungarocell Green Program won the award for a Sustainable Future in the Business Solution Fee – Circular economy category.

The substance of our program is that the products we manufacture and supply meet the company’s values, and sustainability is one of them. We wish to highlight that it is not enough to believe in something; we need to take action; hence we took the first step toward a more sustainable economy and life by entering the world of  circular economy.

We were the first to develop this unique, innovative program, whose steps are easy: The consumer purchases the polystyrene and puts scraps into the previously bought bag. After this, they take the bag to one of the hundred Eco-Points we are partnered with, from where Masterplast returns it to its plant. Masterplast manufactures Thermobeton from the scrap, which can also be purchased at the Eco-Points. Overall, the product contributes to the life cycle of buildings’ carbon emission reduction.

We started small, and today there is an opportunity to join us all around the country. Apart from this being an eco-friendly solution, it is also an opportunity for cost reduction.

Once again, if customers leave the polystyrene scraps at one of the collection points, we can manufacture an excellent and new thermal insulation material. Therefore we not only recycle a material that otherwise ends up as waste, but we also do a good deed: By using Thermobeton, buildings will be more energy efficient.

For our program to be successful, more and more people need to be aware of it and join the cause. We wish to include more partners so people can leave the scraps in other places as well, not only at the Eco-Points. Sustainable and green operation is particularly important to our strategy and long terms plans. As an ESG conscius enterprise we are proud to be the first construction company to create a green program within the circular economy. Moreover, our plants operate with an almost waste-free technology and we apply an energy conscious attitude which can reduce the company’s environmental footprint.
